Recently, the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy was contacted by a concerned citizen, who drew to the agency’s attention, what was suspected to be an unlicensed firearm. On the basis of the citizen’s anonymity, the agency recovered the weapon, a Colt AR – 15 semi-automatic rifle, which was turned over to the Commissioner of Police. It is expected that the necessary forensic examination will be conducted to determine if the weapon was used in any criminal offence.
As a law enforcement agency tasked with dismantling drug trafficking organizations, investigating money laundering and terrorism financing and tackling organized crime, it is imperative that the agency does its part in assisting to remove the dangerous illegal weapons from criminals across Antigua and Barbuda.
The ONDCP takes this opportunity to encourage citizens and residents of our nation to continue to do their part in contacting law enforcement with any information in relation to the whereabouts of or the use of illegal weapons.
