On Sunday, a joint operation between three agencies resulted in the seizure of marijuana, around US$52,000 in cash and a wooden boat. The agencies involved were the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP), The Royal Antigua and Barbuda Police Force (RABPF), and the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard (ABDFCG).
According to a press release from the ONDCP, the agencies received information of a pending drug transaction and as a result visited a house in St. John’s where a quantity of drugs and monies were recovered. Specifically, they reclaimed approximately 1.256 kilos of marijuana and US$52,000 or EC$140,400 in cash and a vessel.
Four persons, including the captain of the vessel, are currently assisting law enforcement with their investigations. The release promised that more arrests are likely as investigations continue. The police added that this has been the second such operation for the month involving the above mentioned agencies as they seek to tackle the scourge of illegal drug trafficking and money laundering in Antigua and Barbuda.
