St John’s, Antigua, 20 July, 2016:
On Tuesday 18th July 2016 following a successful application in the High Court the assets of former businessman Dante Tagliaventi were forfeited to the Crown. The Supervisory Authority was represented by the Director of Public Prosecution, Mr Anthony Armstrong, and Mr Curtis Bird of the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP).
Tagliaventi was arrested by US law enforcement officers in May 2012 and was subsequently indicted and convicted last year for conspiracy to import cocaine into the United States and is serving an 87-month sentence. The ONDCP having obtained a freeze order in September 2013, proceeded to apply to the court for an order forfeiting to the Crown all frozen property of Mr Tagliaventi located in Antigua and Barbuda.
