On Wednesday 23rd November 2016, the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) successfully conducted another counter-drug operation. As a result of an operation, which resulted in the seizure of 156lbs of cannabis, an Antiguan national, Samuel Friths, employed by Caribbean Airport Services (CAS) as a Ramp Supervisor, was arrested and charged. The operation took place in the parking lot of the Mount St. John’s Medical Center. In a twist of fate, the 54-year-old fell ill during the course of the operation, was immediately hospitalized and was discharged on 28th November, 2016.
On Tuesday 29th November, 2016, he was charged with Possession of Cannabis, Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Transfer, Being Concerned in the Supply of Cannabis and Drug Trafficking.
The drug, which is believed to originate from Jamaica, carries an estimated wholesale value of Six Hundred and Twenty-Four Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($624,000.00 XCD).
He is expected to appear in the St. John’s Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 30th November, 2016.
