Officers from the ONDCP arrested and charged Omar Tagliaventi and Soraya Felix both of Fort Road, for the illegal possession of one (1) .38 revolver pistol and 38 rounds of .38 hollow point ammunition. The arrest came after officers executed a search warrant on Wednesday 15th June, 2016 at the residence occupied by both persons. During the search the illegal firearm and ammunition were discovered.
The couple appeared in the St. John’s Magistrate Court on Monday 20th June, 2016 to answer charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition contrary to Section 6(1) (3) of the Firearms Act Chapter 171 of the Revised Edition 1992 of the Laws of Antigua and Barbuda.
Soraya Felix pleaded not guilty to both charges and no further evidence was offered against her. Omar Tagliaventi pleaded guilty to both charges and was ordered to pay a fine of $5,000.00 EC for the charge relating to the Firearm and $5,000.00EC for the charge relating to the Ammunition. Tagliaventi was ordered to pay the fine by the end of the same day or spend one (1) year in prison.
