On Friday 29th April, 2016, in collaboration with the High Court, the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy (ONDCP) along with the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda (Narcotics Department) destroyed a large quantity of Cocaine and Cannabis at the Burma Quarry.
The drug destruction was conducted in the presence of Justice Keith Thom and the Director of Public Prosecution Mr. Anthony Armstrong. It came as a result of the successful completion of several court cases by the two named law enforcement Agencies.
Destroyed by fire were the amounts of 2832.22 lbs of cannabis with an estimated street value of $41,300,000.00 along with 482.30kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of $67,700,000.00. These were seized by the ONDCP from drug operations within the last few years but have now been concluded.
Additionally, 994.22lbs of cannabis with an estimated street value of $2,500,000.00 were also destroyed after the matters involving both the Police and ONDCP were concluded in the High Court.
