Over the period of 29th -30th October 2009, the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (OAS/CICAD) conducted a Drug Information Network Workshop that was held in Kingston, Jamaica. The Workshop saw participants from Antigua, Belize, The Bahamas, Grenada, Jamaica and the USA and aimed to improve the countries performance in policy making, the design and implementation of responses and programs though the use of timely and reliable information.
There are four (4) major steps any new DIN must go through in order to have a secure foundation. Data must be gathered from the network members and a meeting must be convened with these members after the publication of its annual report so that the implications of that report can be discussed. These steps are: 1) Information Needs and Resource Analysis; 2) the first network meeting; 3) Collection and analysis of data and information collected; and 4) the publication of the annual report.
Antigua and Barbuda is awaiting technical assistance to commence the implementation of the Drug Information Network.
